Bermuda's "New" Tourism Ad campaign

Absolutely none of these new ads make me want to go to BDA.
I didn't read the article as I was only interested in the comments...but they totally missed the mark again. The part that makes me crazy is that they 'launched' the ad campaign on East Broadway - to locals and residents? really?

Haha one of the comments in the RG article was a guy who saw the campaign ad launched and one of the girls holding the banner looked disinterested and was busy texting on her Blackberry. Classic Bermuda!

Clearly designed by the current government. There's no reference to the island's British ownership and heritage. A headline like, "You can get to Britain in 2 hours" is interesting / surprising and appeals to the East Coast upper-1% who are the only ones who can afford a trip here where they're not sleeping on a friend's couch. It's also something unique, as opposed to "so much more," which could describe any tourist destination. That's about the most bland tourist slogan ever. And it's untrue; there's no so much more here. It reminds me of when a bank known for appalling customer service decided to run an ad campaign saying they had great customer service. People just laughed.
Several of the ads clearly appeal to that 1% in other ways though, like "high society", "place to be seen" and "tee time". But then others contradict this message, like the tongue-in-cheek "proper' ads. Most of the 1%ers who might have a wedding here seem to indeed be rather proper at their weddings.
I understand the obsession with the gombeys among tourism officials, but I don't think that that's the sort of thing that appeals to the white folks coming here.

I agree George. Just watching for the very first time, I forgot for a second and thought it was a commercial for Puerto Rico or Jamaica. And Bermuda is not associated with the Caribbean one bit despite what many think. So much more my ass. So much less for a lot more money!

Unbelievable that there is a grammar mistake. How could that happen?

$4.8 million on a very generic and confused marketing campaign; this is not a new day for Bermuda tourism, this is more crap.
As George points out, the new slogan is untrue. This makes it worse than just being bland.
Add a couple of apostrophes in the wrong place and yep - laughable!

Someone commenting on Bernews pointed out that the grammar error is totally believable: Bermuda's education system at work.

Awesome!
Here's a copy, I figured we better put one up in case the original goes away.
One of the first things I learned in portrait photography is to watch for those things sticking out on the neck when people turn their head too far. And the next was not shooting an angle that looks up a person's nose. I'm sure this a attractive woman, but she's on the too skinny side to start with and the angle of her head makes her look horrid.
I won't make fun of her being an amputee, that wouldn't be kind.
However, I'm more than happy to make fun of Bermuda tourism for picking this crap to represent the Island.
I do like this bit from the article, "We just contacted Mr Leseur, a veteran local photographer, and he said he can “assure” us the photo he supplied he did not use photoshop on."
So, given that her hand appear to hold flowers on the groom's shoulder, and her arm vanishes into the sky, I'm guessing this is a Bill Clintoesque lie meaning that it was either someone else who photoshopped it, or he used Corel Paint Shop to butcher this image.

What an awkward picture...more of a trompe l'oeil. Her arm wasn't chopped off, it is around the guy's neck(Her arm is so straight it looks like it was chopped off....but that's actually her armpit!!!) - although the angle of the photo does make it seem like it was hacked off...this is definitely a terrible picture! Her shoulder is all squished! If they were going to use photoshop, then they should have fixed that for sure!!! EW! She does look deformed!
