I see a group are stumping to put a new hotel with a sports complex out at Dockyard.

They just need $100 million to get started and a total of $275 million to finish it.  Well, make it $400 million with typical blow outs in Bermuda.

It is an interesting idea for sure, but what are the chances in this time of financial uncertainty?

Oh, goody!! This will be great for the cruise ship passengers..... Oh, wait, there aren't so many cruise ships coming these days.

This is an interesting "distraction" for the people of Bermuda as it does not appear to be coming from the government, as one might expect, in an effort to take people's thoughts away from the general economic mess on the island.  That said, one has to wonder what the folks who came up with this idea were smoking at the time.

Does BDA even need these facilities? or is this the case of 'if you build it, they will come' mentality...
Isn't National Stadium used only a few times a year for sporting events and the rest of the time it's used by people walking/running the track? Didn't they move the music/jazz festival there in part because they needed to use for something to prove it's worth?

What the heck are these facilties going to be used for?

From the political pundit Trudy Trees, "...where's the parking?"

The reverse angle shows there is indeed no parking at all.   blink

Clearly this has not been too well thought through...

.

I have some buddies who work in dockyard and there are supposed to be more cruise ships this year. The ones that were cancelled were quickly replaced.

Is ANYTHING well thought out in BDA? Hahahahaha Why should you be surprised that there is no parking? If Buses are too full or slow in coming TAXIS will GLADLY take you to and fro Dockyard  Slap

Why wouldn't they report about these new cruise shoip deal in the paper?

This is good news and, seriously, I'm glad to see that things are in reasonably good shape as far as cruise ship visits are concerned. Now.... if we could only get the folks in BDA to espouse Sunday shopping - that would make the cruise ship folks very happy.

When I was there last - August 2010 - we got caught up with a busload of cruise passengers on a Sunday who were heading into Hamilton, only to be told halfway there that the stores were not open! Perhaps things have changed since then??? Sunday shopping now???

I was swimming at the swimming pool in Sandy during the winter. Nice structure with clean showers and a few lanes swimming pool. Very cheap like 20/30$ a month to access every day and there were also a couple of courses. Outside there is a small football field and a parking slot.
Well, you know what? It was always empty ... Just few guys playing football in the evening and a couple of drug dealers. Sandy is less far than Dockyard. Bermudians are f...ing lazy and a sport complex won't make 1 cent from them.
