"and more importantly i wanna take my riding equipment (just hat, jodpurs, chaps nothin else) is it worth it and will it get thru customs if its in my suitcase?! "

Hmmm.... for a pro-fresh-ional opinion I'd suggest you post a pic of yourself in just the hat, jodpurs and chaps, nuthin else. We can then give you a better answer. And maybe a lft from the airport.... Wink

There's a few options on the riding, one being the Warwick riding school, but another is a program that helps kids with various disabilities together with horses. I bet they'd love to have someone help out with volunteering in return for some riding time.

It's called Riding for the Disabled http://www.brd.bm/

The program runs on volunteers - there's a link on the side of the page.

As SG says, if this sort of thing interests you I'm sure they'd love to have you.

If you get a taste for travel and the expat life, I can tell you that chefs are in demand in many countries. It is one of the highest scoring occupations for migrating to Australia among other places (I'm living in Brisbane and hear that there's a shortage of chefs here). The world's your oyster as they say.

i know, i am extremely lucky to have chosen a job i can get a job anywhere with!! haha, i am really hoping to go to australia it has always been on my list of places to work and travel round, the reason im doin this first is because i dont feel iv quite got the guts to go 2 australia yet on my todd!! atleast in bermud i know sum1 b4hand!  Smiley

kirsty,

I know high school students that have never seen a horse before who volunteer there as well as serious horsey people.  Those volunteers come from all walks of life.

If nothing else, it's an opportunity to meet people that you'd never meet otherwise.

I'll admit straight up that I didn't read the entire thread. Was just wondering if kirstymc ended up coming across to the island? and how the whole duty thing worked out? I was on here a few months back, but due to sheer laziness (and/or preoccupation exploring the island) wasn't on the net much. My initial contract was only for a couple of months and went pretty well, enough so that theyre trying to get me back for a second stint. I for one didn't pay any duty whatsoever, when the customs guy asked why I was visiting, I replied 'work' and he waved me straight through. Just wondered if I was a rare case or if many people found this?

Totally random, in my experience.  Some visitors have had new wedding rings impounded to collect duty, others get the waive through.

Myself, I always made a point of declaring my stuff, paying the duty and holding my head high knowing I was doing my part.

Thanks for dropping back to let us know how things went.  Good luck and stay in touch!
