Fmwt - have you had the pleasure of one of 'those' letters in the mail?

Nope never got nicked for speeding, got stopped once but the car was too far away to get a valid speed and I had seen it almost immediately. Good thing really it was a 50mph limit dual carriage way from the M25 towards Woking. I was going a lot faster than 50 Smiley

Now of course, that would mean that all records at TCD would have to be bang smack up to date.  I would be mighty upset if i was pulled over and found out that whilst i am driving all legal and above board, the records at TCD are not as they should be.  But that's an assumption on my part - TCD could well now be running at 100% with everyting running tickety boo and as it should be.

The system you are talking about is brilliant, but expensive. More importantly it is reliant on the efficiency of the DVLA - or in our case TCD

But no where near as good as having Traffic Cops on the road. Funnily enough cameras don't stop bad driving.

I agree that actual police presence is the way to go. I was actually applauding the use of the vehicle recognition cameras to catch those who are unlicensed, have warrants or stolen vehilces.

One for the cops/ex cops in the group... how good/effficient/up to date are the tools available to Bermuda's police force? Do they have everything they realistically need or are they lacking in the right equipment? Is an appropriate amount invested in recruitment, training and so on? (I know that the buildings have long been a problem.Just curious...

But it's not like it's hard to make up new plates. In the UK you are supposed to be only get them made up at special places, that check your details, in real life well it doesn't quite happen like that.

I would fully support these sorts of cameras but they are used as a reason not to have traffic cops. In a recent Motorcycle News it was found that just about no forces in the UK have any traffic cops anymore

Realty I am not a cop but know of some situations they are facing.  The St. George's condemned building has been finally renovated after 7 years or so, and they moved a station over to South Side.  So at least one item is combatted, but technology wise they are still behind times.

Thanks AAW... would $11m diverted from cricket funds put matters straight?

True... it is a very minor issue, that's for sure!? Considering what else is going on in my beloved little Island. But it still bugs me that nobody cares to fix it.? Another one... who taught the W & E guys how to lay asphalt??

No worries mysticman, I totally relate to what you are saying about the various trivial things that suck in Bermuda.  The saying, "if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well" was drilled into me as a kid, and I try make my work reflect that.  Is this notion lost in Bermuda?  Or, are people really so incompetent they can't even paint the line down the middle of the road without it weaving all over the place?  If it is your job, is it really so hard to follow the arc of a curve, or keep the machine going straight on the non-curving roads?

OK, that's pretty picky, but it seems to be an overall reflection of the shoddy quality that passes for "good enough" in Bermuda.  I think it is that feeling that "nobody cares to fix it", that bugs us enough to mention it here.

Realty I think that the police service and the Bermudian community would've greatly benefitted from having a slice of the pie that was given to the cricket team.  Updated computers, equipment, buildings, recruiting, pay, training... I could go on and on.
