The US isn't so great either.  Does anyone know anything about Sydney? Is it better than Bermuda?

I'm not sure you will fit in anywhere.

But my advice is to try Scotland.

They have deep fried pizza and nationalized healthcare.

If that doesn't make you happy, nothing will.

Cool. You should try Sydney.

But don't come crying back here when you find yourself missing fried pizza.

hey I just remembered a cool Sydney webcam. Let me see if I can find it.

thanks! maybe I can get go to scotland and jack the recipe in the mean time.  In Ireland I had a battered and fried snickers with vanilla ice cream on top.  The combination of those two would make a nice british isles meal.

Taxes are of course higher in Australia than Bermuda and you can't buy Black Seal... otherwise it's great down under. Sydney has a real big city feel and is the most expensive city in Australia - but still inexpensive when you are used to Bermuda prices. Depending on your profession and preferences, you could also look at Brisbane and Perth - both fast-growing cities that are doing very well thanks to a mining boom.

Australia is not a perfect utopia. There are issues like anywhere but it is a very good place to live. Facilities are excellent, people are mostly easy going. Because it is much larger, you don't have the ease of an expat community in the way of Bermuda - but yes, they exist if you seek them out. There are certainly plenty of people of Italian heritage - and Greek, British, Chinese, Dutch, Polish, Vietnamese, German, Irish... having people here from all over the world is one of the things I like best of all.

There's quite a bit of info about visas etc at www.immigration.gov.au - depending on your profession, you may find that Australia welcomes you very readily since there are several skill shortages being addressed by attracting new migrants.

Yes it would. Again, salaries depend on what it is you do... there are some very well paid rural jobs in mining in remote Queensland and WA for example. For most office jobs, you'd expect significantly more in Sydney and Melbourne with the rest of the country starting to catch up.

Try checking job sites such as seek.com.au to get an idea of salaries and realestate.com.au for house purchase/rental prices. Drop me a PM if you get stuck with your research and I'll find what I can for you. Good luck!

The standard of living is very good - Mike gazes around in amazement in the fruit & veg section of the supermarket and scrutinises the docket to re-live the bargains...
