I'm having a hard time with this site, but I'm trying very hard to keep an open mind.  I'm a born Bermudian and I know that Bermuda has lots of problems.  However, some of the places that our guest workers come from are no better than Bermuda.  It's hard to understand why someone would stay in Bermuda if they didn't enjoy it.  If they are only staying for the money, then they should at least appreciate that.

I would not dislike someone because of where they came from.....so please don't pretend that all Bermudians are racist or ignorant.

War Girl,
I was just commenting on your intro. No offense. It's funny when you live under trying circumstances day after day it is easy for a person to become numb to the constant abuse. Sometime a person must step outside of their life to see what their life is really about. Certainly leaving BDA has opened my eyes to the help that Bermudians live in every day.

Good for you Warwick Girl, for keeping an open mind. Truth is, there are some very good things about Bermuda, but also some not so good. I have sure experienced the horrors, racism has been directed at me and at both black and white friends, I had a boss who could only be described as a psycho, and don't have faith in the legal system if I take that boss to court for the $15,000 or so that I'll never get to see. I have paid $2.50 for a single tomato. I have paid grats on a bill when the service made the old communist Russia look good. I've been on the receiving end of bizarre random judgements by government departments. Understand, the experience as a foreigner (both tourist and expat) does include these negative elements and they are all real.

On the other hand, I have made some nice friends and had an experience (albeit a very expensive one!). I have met some of the friendly Bermudians the brochures tell you about. I have drunk some fine rum, sailed, learned to ride a moped with minimal road rash. I do have a very nice country to go back to. One with 90 mile beaches and fantastic standard of living.

I congratulate you for being one of those Bermudians who is able to be open minded - and hope that you will influence others. That way, many of the problems will recede. I've seen some great and insightful suggestions on this site (along with some pretty funny ones). I hope you'll contribute more.
