The statement says: "Not only does this fly in the face of common sense, given that one nine-storey hotel has been given permission via SDO to be built next door, it would fly in the face of every consultative opinion, all expert advice, and centuries of wisdom."

It's quite obvious what's going to happen here: Papa Doc clearly is determined to see that this project takes place, but he's not willing to lay his election popularity on the line for it, if he doesn't need to. The election will be called this summer before any decision is made [/i]publicly on the SDO. If the PLP get back in, the SDO will be issued shortly thereafter and Papa Doc will then have five years to let the outrage die down before the next election. What a shower of arseholes we're dealing with............

Yep, quite a few things waiting til after the election.

It is not that I am against progress, just I believe that Bermuda's few natural resources should be considered very, very carefully indeed. It may be that there are other options Jumeirah would consider, or other developers. For now though, I'd say that properly renovating the facilities (and staff attitudes) of existing hotels would be a priority. If the plans are really in Bermuda's best interests, they should be able to pass throgh regular planning processes and not get an SDO issued.

What we need now is a photo of he and his (alleged) live in partner, former AG Larry Mussenden.

Hate to get us back on track. But what the hell has happened to the former Sonesta Beach Hotel (whatever it got called after that)? I know they mentioned renovations but what Holiday Inn / Club Med year is this going to start?

jr my poor naive child...  (Wyndham Resort) ...there ain't the same kickbacks in those things for E-Wart and the Wookies as in the new property deals...  you wouldn't want your Government to actually do something constructive now would you?

The Wyndham/Sonnesta Hotel is now the new Club Med with the homeless from Club Med moved to that location. Club med will eventually probably fill up with more homeless people, hence the need to build new hotels, its easier to build a new hotel and earn a few perks along the way, than to figure out what to do about the homeless situation.

Perfect, homeless people right next door to David Dodwell and the Reefs.  Great contrast.  Whos says the PLP doesn't have a sense of humor?

Hey, Henry's Pantry don't mind at all. The move doubled their liquor sales overnight!!!  However I would love to see the crime stats in the area..
