I didn't know about mould til I arrived but found out quickly. Who'd have thought that mould could grow on so many surfaces? I'm scared to sleep too long in Bermuda in case I decompose before I wake.

Hi there,

Please don't take mould too lightly. It's responsible for all kinds of repiratory complaints, deseases, ailments, maladies etc. Better to invest in a fan heater over winter to dry the place out a bit.

make sure you have a closet heater and good ventilation, keeping all the windows closed doesn't help, in fact it makes things worse.

I lived in a very old bermuda home and i suffered for many years with chest infections - i was even told i had to use ventilators and inhailers.
I moved t canada and  have not had one chest infections and i dont know were my inhailers are either.

Be VERY careful with Mold....it is dangerous and can make you extremely ill.? I always recommend to people living in Bermuda to invest in a de-humidifyer, it will help to stop it growing on the walls, etc.!? There is such a high asthma rate in Bermuda, and I believe it is because of this.? Just move the de-humidifyer around from room to room, while you are work, have it going all day in the main living areas.? I guarantee when you get home, it will be full of water.

Also, people beware:? when you are buying new carpeting, make sure (I cannot say this enough) - you have enough ventilation in the house/condo/apt/ wherever you are living,? after it is installed.? I really do not want to frighten anyone, but I got very sick in Bermuda when I had the house locked up with air conditioning on, in high summer, after carpeting was installed in every room in the house.? There is a HIGH content of formaldehyde (hopefully I spelled it right) in the carpeting, I had it tested.? I am not saying this is not found in alot of certain types of carpeting all over the world, I am saying that people tend to close up their houses more in Bermuda (windows, doors).

Sorry to sound like a paranoid freak, but due to the weather conditions in Bermuda, you are either closed up for the summer due to high humidity wth the air conditioning, or closed up in the winter due to the very cool weather.

It took me ONE Year to get better after having that stuff in my system for two months straight (the thing off the carpeting) - it was not an easy illness, it mimicked a poisoning.? And, I found out what it was months after it got in my system, so there were many panickey moments during, and lots of money spent to find out.
