The personal tragedy behind the headline makes me want to weep.

The serious sexual assault, the weapon, and the threats are sickening.

The $40 theft makes me think he's a crack head.  If they are both involved with hard drugs does that taint the picture?

Mike ... the sad part is that this is only the tip of the iceburg ... these types of assualt are occurring almost daily now ... few ever go to court ... most charges are dropped becasue the victim is pressured by her assailant and/or his peers to do so.

Sad part is that all parties probably partake and everything is fine between them until it runs out and then they set up one another.

Why is this not a huge issue? ... seems like someone in government may have an ulterior interest here!   Shocked

I'm not saying anything as to who did what or what's right or wrong.

Reading this after what i read in yesterday's paper....it just seems there are some holes in her story.

He was in the shower and you a) didn't call the police for assistance or especially B) YOU DIDN'T GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE?!?!?!!

I don't know what to think on this one...I'm glad it's not my job to decide.

You have to be careful what you read in the media CC...  I served on the jury of the Policeman (John White) that was accused of molesting several young boys.  What appeared in the media, sometimes was all wrong.  That's why they advise juries not to listen to the news or read the papers.

That's exactly what i'm saying.  I'm not trying to say if he did or didn't do anything or if she is telling the truth or not.  Based on what was given it can be taken either way.  All i'm sure of is that i'm not responsible for making a decision on the matter and i'm glad for it.

Too many of these creeps are getting off entirely, or getting off light.  I say give them a fair trial (it's required), then cut his balls off.

Not sure that this trial is the best example, though. There are certainly some very odd circumstances and behaviours being demonstrated in this trial. Based upon what the RG has printed, it doesn't exactly look like an open and shut case.

I can't say too much for fear of jeopardising the outcome of this case, but I know the players in this one, and believe me, he belongs behind bars for a long time.  Sometimes women don't use the best judgement when picking a fella, and Lord knows we can sometimes be fooled by a soft spoken man with the gift of the gab, but the penalty shouldn't be rape and abuse.

No argument from me there, and I'm sure you're right, but, unfortunately, trying to be as objective as possible as a jury must be, there may be reasonable doubt.

Or else the case will be overturned just because someone didn't dot the I's or cross the T's.

I was speaking to a friend who was a jurist in a case recently who said that the jury could not in anyway convict a person because, whilst they were pretty sure that the guy was a nasty piece of work who deserved a long jail sentence, unfortunately the prosecution failed to supply certain evidence which would have been a slam dunk guilty verdict - hence they were 'directed' to find the guy not guilty.

That must be seriously frustrating for the police, victims, jury etc. Is the public prosecution office performing so badly in Bermuda or is there something else at play here?
