PAST U.S. OPEN CHAMPION JIM FURYK TO TAKE TIGER  WOODS' BERTH IN THE 2007 PGA GRAND SLAM OF GOLF

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Jim Furyk, winner of the 2003 U.S. Open, will make his third trip to the season-ending showcase of major champions, Oct. 15-17, in the 25th PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda at the Mid Ocean Club.

Furyk will replace PGA Champion Tiger Woods, who told The PGA of America that following the Presidents Cup, Sept. 30, that he would not compete the remainder of the year.

Furyk will be joined at Mid Ocean Club, the first venue outside the U.S. to host the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, by Masters Champion Zach Johnson, U.S. Open Champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina and British Open Champion Padraig Harrington of Ireland.

"While we are disappointed that the world's No. 1 player will not be able to join us this year in Bermuda, we certainly understand and respect his decision to be with his family," said PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb. "Tiger has a long and successful history with the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and as a seven-time winner of this event, we are confident that we will see his participation in the future. We also are pleased that PGA Grand Slam of Golf Major Champions Points List leader Jim Furyk will be able to join Zach Johnson, Angel Cabrera and Padraig Harrington for the 25th edition of this great event in one of the most beautiful places in the world."

Furyk was runner-up in the 2006 PGA Grand Slam of Golf and won the 2003 title. This season, Furyk finished first in the Major Champions Points List with 214.5 points. He is currently No. 3 in the World Golf Rankings, and winner of this season's Bell Canadian Open. He finished tied for 13th in the Masters, shared second in the U.S. Open, tied for 12th in the British Open and missed the cut in the PGA Championship.

"I am sorry that I will not be able to spend some time with my friends at The PGA of America and experience the beauty of Bermuda this year at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf," said Tiger Woods. "It's been a long year. And, given some new, personal obligations, it is very important that I take some extended time off and spend it with my family."

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a 36-hole event televised by TNT, which will be broadcast to a worldwide audience of 89 million U.S. homes and an international audience of more than 100 countries in a prime-time telecast.

This year's major champions will compete for a new purse is $1.35 million, with the winner receiving a record $600,000, second place $300,000, third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.

"I was naturally disappointed to hear Tiger will not appear at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, but I completely understand considering the exhausting year he has had on the golf course and his new commitments as a father," said Dr. Ewart F. Brown, Premier of Bermuda and Minister of Tourism. "I hope Tiger can qualify again next year and join us in 2008. In the meantime, with Jim Furyk added to the scorecard we still have a stunning cast of golfers coming to Bermuda for a spectacular event. Make no mistake-the PGA Grand Slam of Golf will still be the biggest ever international sporting event this island has ever known and every Bermudian is prepared to show the world why our country is an unmatched travel destination and golfers' paradise."

Tickets for the 25th PGA Grand Slam of Golf may be purchased by dialing 1-800-PGA-GOLF (800-742-4653), or (561) 624-7601, or by visiting www.PGA.com.

Season tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are available for $150 and come in the form of three individual day tickets.  Daily tickets for individual day attendance are available for $50 on Monday for the Champions Clinic and Pro-Am and $75 each day for the Tuesday and Wednesday competition days.

In an effort to encourage more youths to become involved in the game of golf, The PGA of America is offering $10 daily tickets to children 17 years and younger when accompanied by a ticket-bearing adult.  All proceeds from junior ticket sales will be donated directly to the Bermuda Junior Golf Association. Junior tickets may be purchased at a pre-determined date and location in Bermuda which will be announced.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf
Established in 1979, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf has grown from an 18-hole, single-day charity event to a
36-hole annual showdown that matches professional golf's best against each other for a $1.35 million purse.  Past Champions include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Tom Lehman, Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman, Nick Price and Ian Woosnam.

The 25th PGA Grand Slam of Golf will be hosted by the Bermuda Department of Tourism, Mid Ocean Club and the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.

Whatever and whoever shows up,i'm kinda glad the focus is off Tiger now and let's hope that it will be a brilliant few rounds of golf by some world class champs.  Sorry not to see tiger turn up but this was turning into the Tiger/Brown show and I don't think there's enough buckets on this little island to hold the spew worthy spiel coming out of some mouths!

Call me what you want, when you want but I held back on this one for sometime. I knew he would not come.  Tiger does not like the poiltics of this and his career and family come first. A family member of mine, a Golf Pro knows him quite well so I think Ewart overstepped when he made all the things he said sound like the deal is done. Problem is, Tiger don't make deals.

I'll leave it at that.
