K2U for the breaking news 32.

Sorry to hear that this is not going to work out for the Grand Slam of Golf.  It's not surprising, since he was lobbying so hard for Hawaii.  It'll still be an amazing event...oh well  Cry

Yes it is an amazing event CC and the good Doctor should have left it the hell alone. Thats why he is cowring in some hideout now. This is a big flop for him personally. He should have left well enough alone and moved on fixing things broken and in need of repair here on the island first.

Just my thoughts. The event will be a success just as others have been in the past at Mid Ocean and other venues.

Good day to all.

So why was islandstats.com saying he's informed the PGA he was coming only to do a role reversal the next day? They still have him coming and going on their front page. Don't tell me the site's run by a Brown....

Apparently Tiger wrote Dr. Brown a letter advising him of his decision not to attend.  I wonder when it was received?

RG claims the letter was sent earlier today by Tiger.

In the grand scheme of things there are two other more significant breaking news stories on the RG online. Police are narrowing down their suspects to 6 on Crockwell's murder and the Auntie Em spotlight has brought six more cases of elderly abuse to light.

I am sure Tiger's handlers have scoped Bermuda out very heavily in the past few weeks and as polite and generous he is in complimenting Bermuda I am sure he's relieved to have such legitimate excuses for declining.

And now that he's off the stage let's hope our leaders will get back to work on the really important issues we have.

Excellent point ... and quite believable.

From the RG article ...

Quote
Tiger wrote to Premier Ewart Brown earlier today to inform him he will not participate in the Grand Slam.

Premier Brown said: I was naturally disappointed to hear Tiger will not appear at the Grand Slam, but I completely understand considering the exhausting year he has had on the golf course and his new commitments as a father. I hope he can qualify again next year and join us in 2008."

Tiger thanked Premier Brown for his thoughtfulness in a one-page letter. He wrote: " I want to express my personal gratitude for your understanding of my situation this year."

Notwithstanding the accuracy of the article (although the RG has been known to misquote before ... ahem ... a few times) this seems a little bit like the chicken and the egg scenario ... which came first? (I personally believe it was the egg but that's a whole different thread).

If Dr. Brown heard that TW wasn't coming it begs the question as to when he first heard the news as it's clear TW's letter was in response to Dr. Brown's remarks regarding how understandable his absence was.  Yes?  No?

At the end of the day I agree that this is still going to be a fun event and hope Bermuda shines on TV (albeit now with fewer eyeballs).

PS - sorry to overrun this topic with so may posts.  I had some free time this afternoon  Wink

Although it was explained that Tiger was going to make his decision by the past week-end and I have no doubt Ewart would definitely hold off on passing this information on I think I'll have to give Ewart the benefit of the doubt on this one. He probably received the news/letters via email and possibly only a few hours before the press would have known. Which delegates him to the press club which would probably have pissed him off even more.... Wink

I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED!!!  (A normal state for this rabbit...)  But I had a long conversation with Carlos Durham of the Dept. of Tourism, and Ew-Rats right hand man down there, and he told me Tiger is DEFINITELY COMING!!!  This was yesterday!  So what the hell is the deal??  Does the right hand not know what the left hand is doing??

Okay. The adolescent putty humour of "yankin' our putters" and PGA "ins and outs" was one thing, but a little birdie told me that this exchange was not a fareway to talk about EEEEEWWWWart, in fact a little rough:

"Where are you Dr. Balls?"

"I tell you he's in hiding licking his wounds."

What are you driving at - the political eunuch thing again? How course.  It wood be timely to return to your bunkers because the bogey man might get you.

Sorry. But I just had to pars this one.

Am I the only one to recall several weeks ago that it can be a possibility that Tiger would not come.. he had the choice to decline?Huh

The premier is also the Tourism minister.. so as a tourism minister wouldn't you try very hard to get a big name celebrity to your country???

Im not a fan of golf.. but I can appreciate the hard work the Ministry did to get the PGA Grand Slam here so that millions of people can see our beautiful island.  Even if the UBP was in power and pulled it off I would be grateful.

I guess its never enough for some people.

A more important issue with me is that if we have the facilities to bring the cream of the crop here to play.. I would like to see more Bermudian professional golfers do well on the international scene.
