Um Um S Brown - the way the Grand Slam works is that anyone who wins a major is invited - not forced - to attend. It's been that way for thirteen years. It's a big dissapointment for the island that Tiger's withdrawn. The trouble is people have become so fed up with Ewart Brown's approach to things that there are a large amount of people who tonight feel somewhat glad that good old Ewart and Co got slapped down. They may not say it but we all know they think it. And it's not just the bogey men. Wink

I know how the grand slam selection works... thats why I was one of the few people who wasnt surprised when I found out he would not play.

It is unfortunate that people would like to see negative things happen in Bermuda, that affects all; due to their dislike for one person.  C'est la vie I guess.

I can honestly say Im one of those people who like to see positive things happen in Bermuda regardless of racial, political, cultural influences.  But that is just me I guess

Dude... you're getting it all wrong. It's not that people don't want positive things like Tiger Woods playing in Bermuda it's just that people are so damn weary and jaded by the constant barrage of BS from one individual and a few of his cohorts and all that it entails.

All I can say is Tiger knows when he's being put in a position that could cause him embarrasment. He pays people millions of dollars a year to make sure that doesn't happen. And with some of the things that Brown's been putting out it might have been somewhat awkward for him. He or his people would never say anything but it's out there.

Brown wants to be the big shot off the tee. And that really rubs people the wrong way. Maybe he needs to work on his short game and learn a little more finesse. For the sake of Bermuda... not just him or the celebrities.

It is a shame for Bermuda in some way but I believe that the other golfers are also big drawcards, if a little less media worthy than Tiger. There will still be a lot of tv and print coverage so Bermuda has an opportunity to put aside the crap and shine in front of a great potential tourism audience. Not that I get the lure of watching golf myself, each to their own Smiley

Exactly Reality. These other guys are good. My money's on Furyk now but it would have been a Tigerfest and nothing more. Who knows, maybe now some rooms will open up and we'll be able to get real tourists not just the crews from the various media groups. I think it's a feather in Tourism's cap to have pulled the Grand Slam to Bermuda... I just hate the idea that with Tiger involved it would most likely have turned into a political brownie points propoganda stunt whilst allowing distraction from the real issues of Bermuda.

S Brown - I would hope that there has been a spot of money put away for a rainy day with one or more of our plethora of re-insurance companies. And yes to your point earlier it would be great if Bermuda could produce a world class golfer. We're out there trying every week-end and after every 300 yard drive or to the pin iron we all spin the club.... just like Tiger. Wink

The dodgy doc paid just under twice what most sports media consultants thought the rights for the Grand Slam were worth all so he could get his 20 second grip n grin with Tiger. Hawaii & Vegas really low balled their bids because they knew that the new fedex cup would take away a lot of the ad spend on the Grand Slam; this is going to be the same story for the next three years. It probably doesn't help that Tigers only close friend on the island is no great fan of the doc either.
