A walkout was averted when the PTB management backed down over plans to suspend an employee for 2 days for moving a bus while talking on a cellphone. So it is OK now that their staff do that? Folks, take extra care around buses, who knows where the drivers' attntion might be.

Some people just don't know when to picket a fight. Imagine what the outcome would have been if the driver had hit a mechanic and killed him because he was not paying proper attention whilst the cell phone....

As they say common sense is the least common sense of all.

That's what the illegal industrial action was about? Yes, workers really need to know when to pick their fights, as it's completely inappropriate to drive a freakin' bus while talking on a cell phone!

I guess it's all relative, based on precedent.  If you don't suspend them for smoking herb or drinking on the job, then you are estopped from suspending them for talking on a cell phone.

Rasta  - you're right. The board should issue "Stupid Tickets" and dock every single person who downed tools three hours pay and dock the twit on the cell phone two days pay. I'm thinking of getting a "I'm with stupid" T shirt to wear when I get on a bus that has the driver on a cell phone. Sit right next to the fool.

Hmmm... I wonder if the dockyard crash had anything to do with cell phones.....

In all sincerity, yes it did Smokes. I checked the skaduall......it was an inmate that was on day release that was driving. An equal opportunity thing that just got 'stretched out' due too 'upward mobility'.

a couple of years ago, i remember being on a bus (number 8 route) and some woman driver had a fit cos a guy got on with his ipod and she didn't like the 'noise' of it, although he had his ear plugs in and to my mind wasn't disturbing anyone and i was sitting two seats away from him.  She stopped the bus and refused to move till the guy either turned it off totally or got off the bus!!! We were sat there about 10 minutes before moving on.  She was one moody bus driver! but then why am I surprised? my out-laws and their friends (all in their 60's) got soundly told off by the bus driver once for laughing!!!!! (everyone else on the bus was so gobsmacked they too started laughing)  it was so funny, you know when you get the giggles and you can't stop!!! well, that bus driver nearly had a heart attack he was so upset about everyone giggling!!

Honestly, i could go on and give you more stories about the bus drivers, but why bother.......... these are just a couple of instances.  Having said that, there are also some lovely ones out there!

Oh, and the one handed bus driving thing, you know, hand on the cash receptacle, chatting to the friend behind.............

I agree with valentine. It seems that these bus drivers have their respective rules inside their buses. Ive gone to some buses and they are a bit cranky. I remember a senario similar to valentine mentioned about giggling and laughing inside the bus. These drivers are kinda retarded. One time i took a bus goin to southampton. THat was 5pm and everybody were just goin back from school and work. So people talk and its a bit noisy in the bus. All of a sudden the lady bus driver screamed like an upset teacher inside her classroom. She said we are not goin if we dont shut up. An old lady told her to lighten up. Then she said "My bus My rule" --- I actually butt in by saying, we pay for the bus. The same money used to pay your salary.  She asked me to get out but i didnt.  Good thing the people were behind me. From the first round about till  warwick, she just talked on and on, saying her own litany... people were gigling at the back.

I just kept quiet coz i said my piece

I've heard from friends that the level of discontent has increased noticeably on the Island in the last several months.  Would you say that is a true assessment of the Bermudians or expats, or not really?  Huh

I cannot remember a white or a guest worker being outright rude to me lately... not saying that it has not happened.   People just seem to be yelling at each other more often these days -- particularly from cars.  Roll Eyes Cool

It probably depends on to whom you talk. The people that Papa Doc's pandering to, as well as his cronies are lapping it up. Me? Well, I sold up and moved away precisely because of the corrupt Government, so.............

<Thread Re-Focus>
I mentioned all this to you lot a while ago here.  In my case, I had the good fortune to be riding shotgun with a cager (a.k.a. 4-Wheeler) so I could see the entire scene unfold!

As far as rudeness goes ... well, YEAH!?!?!  Especially, when - like me - you look more like an ExPat Accountant than from a Bermudian family with 300+ years on this Island!

Sorry, got sneered at by some little bi-otch this morning ... for saying 'Good Morning'  !
