Guys, I'm a long term - if occasional - reader of BermudaSucks. In fact I'm probably the very first reader.

Anyway, after years and years today is the first time I've decided to post. Not for me... for Tony Brannon.

I think everyone who's active or even an occasional reader on BermudaSucks would agree that dissent is vital in any political forum.

But dissent is not all that's necessary. Sometimes positive change requires the tearing down of convention or institution. More frequently, positive change requires the building of new institutions. The status quo never seems to find that a priority. And yes, the New Bermuda is just another form of the status quo.

We all know Tony Brannon as one of Bermuda's loudest and most emotive public critics.

Saturday night I went to a charity event. "The British Invasion" played a GREAT Beetles and 60s revival show. Once the Beetle wig came off, it became obvious who the front man for the band was. Tony Brannon helped raise thousands and thousands of dollars for the Family Center.  I'm not sure if it was a paid gig, or if it was Tony simply volunteering for the cause. None-the-less, when introducing the band he neglected to claim credit for himself. A humble "I'm Tony". (Who have thought it?)

So, with Bermuda Sucks' cause being to raise funds and work against family violence in Bermuda, I think Tony needs a nod from the site.  He deserves the "Step up and DELIVER" award.  As loud a critic as our buddy can sometimes be, it's easy to see that Tony's heart is for Bermuda.

Thanks, Tony. Well done. Nice to see you home. Like.. why no Panama hat?

Welcome Stranded...Firsties!!!

I know that Tony's words have gotten him into trouble, but i don't think anyone can question that his heart has always been for a better Bermuda.  I think Hawkins Island won't be the same without him.

I understand Hawkin's Island is currently for sale.

Sad to see Tony pull up stakes but I guess he had had enough.

You get a nod of thanks from me Tony.

Hey Darkside ... is the actual island or the business (which I suspect leases the space form the island's owner) for sale ?

Hawkins Island belong to Government as far as I know. The bussiness is up for sale. Hell if the island was up for sale, the Russians would have bought it to set up shop with all the other land thats becoming available.

Gotta run.........mushrooms growing in mighy cell.

Thanks Stranded for the report on the Beatles gig, glad to hear it was a success. As CC says, Tony is truly passionate about Bermuda. Anyone who is raising this sort of funding to take action against family violence gets applause from me. I'm hoping to post a bit more on that topic in the coming days and weeks, glad to be spurred on.

Good to know you're still reading, Stranded. Welcome.

The actual island is my understanding.

I have a lot of respect for Tony. He's one of the few in Tourism that actually deliver what they promise.

Hawkins Island I am sure is still Government owned. I stand to be corrected on thisbut it's neither here nor there re the thread. Most of the Islands in the Great Sound and Little Sound are Government owned. Ports Island, Darrels Island just to name a few. Many of the surrounding ones are privately owned and have been for manyy many years.

Thats why Hawkins has never been developed. A parcel has been set aside and used by many ventures since I was a child.

Back on topic, Tony is the Man, steadfast, strong, and a real Onion.

I Understand the Cox family own a portion/all of Hawkins Island as they recently built a very nice summer house there.

The Church owns Burts Island ... many of the others are privately owned ... just try to tie up to their dock and see what happens.

You may very well  be correct there. It's just my humble opinion of years gone bye. Wink

Well, after all that -

Tony has communicated to me privately that he is simply a worker bee in David Fitzsimmons band, "The British Invasion". Says he simply showed up on time and unaware to play a Saturday evening gig organized completely by the fund raisers of the Family Center.

None-the-less, it was a Great Performance to an indulgent and delighted audience. "The British Invasion" DID loosen wallets. They played a great gig.

For the fund raising, the credit needs to be spread around. The Family Center committee as well as Dave and the band all deserving their share. All of them (Tony included) were the face of the appeal for the Family Center.

If you see here of these guys playing again on the local scene, be sure to hear them!
