I would think not. The inmates are truly running the asylum and will never relinquish control.

Yes, I think they do. And I'll tell them how and waive my consultant's fee.

This is something that I suggested to members of the UBP last Election. They politely declined my home grown, Bermudian solution, no doubt favouring the contrivances of foreign campaign strategists.

Firstly, at no time from 1998 has a PLP leader agreed to debate the vital issues of the Country with a leader of the UBP in a Public, properly facilitated setting with Public participation. At no time from 1998 has a leader of the PLP engaged the Public in an open, properly facilitated forum.

Now the Leader of the PLP is declining to answer questions from the Press, saying he will only respond to formal questions in Parliament. And this is during an Election?

Presuming that the UBP has been burning up the leather on the doorstep, have actively been listening, have been effectively conveying their message... Sorry, I'll continue this in a few minutes. My doggie has to go out. Fresh snow on the ground.

Invigorating.

Now, the People are experiencing the candidates usually in a private setting and not everyone gets to meet with UBP Leader or shadow cabinet. People can call the talks shows I presume and ask them questions in that format. People can blog and write letters to the editor and opinion pieces. All good.

But what do Bermudians really want? How do you start to win the hearts and minds of Bermudians?

As some are wont to say, the UBP must grow some, and then go up and down the Country and meet with the People, most don't bite, in open, properly facilitated forums. And since time is fleeting, they must book those venues now.

I knew the government had declined to answer opposition questions until parliament is back in, when did they decline to answer any press questions? That is a worry if true.

Found it: Andre Curtis won't back up numbers:

Dr. Brown has repeatedly stated he will answer questions through the Parliamentary process — not over the summer or after Parliament was dissolved ahead of December 18's General Election.

He maintained that stance when questioned by this newspaper earlier this month, though he pointed out Mr. Curtis had to meet certain numbers by the terms of his contract.

Thanks & karma FE. I like your suggestions that the UBP stop waiting for the government to do something and just get on with it... show us some leadership rather than just 'me-too' and go and meet the people and press. Just to see a more approachable style of potential government would be compelling to some after the unreachable current leadership.

How many seats/votes do the opposition need to win to be seen ascredible after the election?

Hey there Bountiful,

You asked:

"How many seats/votes do the opposition need to win to be seen as credible after the election?"

Probably in the eyes of some in the PLP, no amount. If the UBP wins no doubt the PLP hierarchy will frantically change the Party Constitution again to remove the right of its membership to openly assist Government (The People's right to sit on Government Boards, etc) and deny Queen's Honours to worthy candidates. I am sure EEEWWWart wants that Knighthood bad, so would not want changes before he gets the shaft, I mean the drubbing. Whoopsie...the dubbing.

Only a vocal, supportive population can give the UBP new life and consequence - without it, the Party will perish.

Love,

Eddie

Thanks FE... and if thre were a hung parliament, would it force the main parties to work together (a good thing) or just implode (not so good)?

I think the point to the Bermudian people is simple: if you vote back in the PLP, you will get what you deserve. It's sad, frustrating, infuriating even - but it's the truth. If the country vote Brown into power than that's it, and whatever he does or doesn't do is on each of those voters heads. A bit like Dubya.

Surely the biggest testament to the UBP's ineptitude is that voters aren't biting their hands off to vote for them. Because in any other serious country what the current PLP leadership have done and said would have them out the door in a heartbeat.

If the Premier refuses to answer questions via the press, get him on Facebook. I would encourage anyone to quiz him on your concerns. I have put numerous questions to him on his 'wall' on facebook. He usually gets back to me pretty quickly.

It's probabley Dwayne the main..or Rolfe..........................

I would highly recommend it Reality. Although some of the comments on there can make for depressing reading. You would be suprised by the number of people who have swallowed the party line!

Rummy - what you doin' up so early? No - the facebook isnt live. It is usually one of Ewarts minions that respond I'm sure.
