One thing we have done in the past is get a temp permit for the worker and then work on getting the full time one.  If there aren't any qualified workers then we do need to get on with the business and it usually works out in the end.

AAW,

This is a good strategy.  I did this myself during the last ordeal.

waiting,

Unfortunately, it is too late now, you are down another road.  Find another focus for your time, or you'll make yourself crazy.  I've been there and it sucks.

The 'fast track' temporary permit still takes a month or so, but puts you on the payroll and lets you work until the regular permit comes online - even if it is months past the 90 day temporary limit...

Hey waiting,

I've been in work permit limbo myself and it is tough.

Count me in as well.? I am still waiting, or else Canada here I return.? Maybe I can vote this time Grin as there will be winter elections now on Jan 23rd 2006.

Well I saw on a legal website that immigration meetings take place on Thursdays so here is hoping today is decision day. I would much rather be in Bermuda on Jan 23rd than here in Canada where it is currently minus 21 celsius! Grin

Can't you vote from there at a consulate or absentee ballot?

Waiting, From my understanding, yes, Canadians overseas can vote.  But, the flip side is that it may cause trouble later on if you had previously declared yourself a non-resident.  So my husband and I aren't taking the risk.  We'll just follow the election from here and hope for the best!  (Although I can't stand the thought of not voting.  I have voted in every election since I became of age.)

Best of luck to you Waiting.  Let us know when you hear something.

We haven't voted since moving here as we have heard that it can compromise your income taxibility.  Interesting comment Cap't...personally I think that if you don't vote you shouldn't get to complain about the powers that be! Wink

Been living here for over 10 years and each year I cast my vote when the US Elections come around.  Personally though I believe they don't even count the absentee ballots.  I just cannot wait until I get to cast my first vote here.  I missed getting to vote by three days.

Hanging chads.

At least you get to pay for your democracy.  As a good U.S. citizen you do pay taxes on your high income, right?  God bless America.

Nice switch up in the pic.  The original had the gang restless, the new one will leave them breathless.

If you make under 85K down here you do file taxes but don't have to pay anything on it.  Like a good US citizen I have been filing faithfully.  Scared to death from some reason that the IRS will hunt me down when I go back to the states...

Thanks Mike, but I am sure not as breathless as seeing Reality's pic!

I don't know Bluenoser, seems that there are a great pair of legs there.  Your photographer is fine.
