You ought to be thankful for the anonymity of cyberspace - without it, I can guaran-effing-tee you that there's be one hell of a less frank discussion than we have - and that wouldn't do almost anyone (other than those who would contrive to benefit from such a situation) any good.

Given the current climate on the Island, it is a good time to review the policies and practices we use to keep your information private.

The way the forum works is by putting all of your information and posts into a database.  This database is on the web server, which is hosted in the U.S.A. by GoDaddy.com.  The database is backed up to a system here in Australia.  Each time you post on the forum, your IP address and the exact time are recorded with the post.  Your IP address is the number your computer uses while connecting to the Internet and can be readily identified as belonging to your Internet service provider (ISP), or corporation.  By correlating your IP address and time, your ISP or company, can identify you.

We have configured this forum to only show the logged IP address to the Administrator, not the Moderators.  Where you see the "Logged" status on each post, I alone see the IP address on my browser.  I also have tools to compare IP addresses to see if people are using multiple accounts and other utilities to help me administer the system.  Again, I am the only person with access to those IP addresses, and the only computers they exist on are in the United States and Australia.  By preventing the moderators from seeing the IP address, there is no risk of that data being seized in a raid on their computers.

We also provide a secure HTTP connection to the forum which encrypts all of the data you send to the web server from your browser.  This ensures that the actual data transmission when you press post can't be read on the way to the server, by a local firewall, for example.

We have a strict privacy policy.  We don't sell your data to anyone.  We protect it fiercely and won't give it up without one hell of a fight - the laws to protect that data in the U.S. and Australia offer considerable security.

Having said that, it is more likely you will reveal too much about yourself and give away your own identity.  Your post can be searched and combed through to create a profile that can lead to identification - particularly in a small community like Bermuda.

So, be careful what you say about yourself and relax knowing we are doing everything reasonably possible to protect your privacy.   Cool

I'll add a fairly simple one... on your profile, you would have used an email address to register. You have the option for that to be hidden... if you are keen for that email address not to be recognised, make sure you have checked the relevant box - that way, again, you are making sure you're not giving anything away. Oh, and the Doc has no jurisdiction down here Wink

That's probabley very true my dear. But then again what about all the PM's that flutter back and forth on this site? I may have digressed but it seems that even an ole fart like me can catch up with the younger, more computer literate. Not to mention names but jingus...as stated this site is used more now for tranfers of info than emails and how conveniant.

Then again, I won't get personal.....

Gotta run.............Damn road kill....wel seasoned...but too much inflated.......... Wink Grin

...what about all the PM's that flutter back and forth on this site?

That's a good question, Rummy.

The forum does provide unmoderated "Personal Messages" between members.

While I've never read the messages between members, I do see an activity report that shows who and when people send messages.    However, if there is a complaint, or suitable evidence from the reporting to warrant investigation into the PMs (personal not private messages), I reserve the right to read them in accordance with the Registration Agreement.

If you want a secure, private messaging system, I suggest you foot the bill for it yourself.  That isn't the purpose, nor the promise of this forum.

To be clear, I have never read the PMs on this site and nobody other than myself has access to them.

Thanks for the clarrification. My statement was such that I did not want to name names. Just an observation when I check 'who's on line', thats all. I meant no harm nor malice. It was just an observance on my part. Not being the 'wizz' that you are, I know that you would never breach the trust of the members.

Mabe it was a subtle rant on my part without going into details and the use of the site for the aforementioned. Thanks.

Gues I better go crawl under Ayers Rock...............damn.......

Gotta run..................Wallabees on the loose...and they have dep 'pouches'....
