I wonder if Jeremy D. or anyone else might check to see if the Government tests the soil in household and school yards for lead contamination in and around Belco. I have heard that soil in urban areas should be removed and replaced after a certain amount of time due to contamination. Also are children being tested who live in the area.

Lead poisoning can cause serious damage to vital organs, including the developing brain of children possibly causing life long cognitive disability if undiagnosed and left untreated. Is there some correlation between lead poisoning and a failure to thrive by many of Bermuda's children.

Actually Eddie, you bring up a very valid topic and quite relevent. Since Bermuda really does'nt have any major avenue for disposal of these/this type of waste it has been usually dumped at sea or close to shore.

Just thinking back years ago when I was a child, there were/was much 'lead' left around on private property and public lands. A majority of it was collected by fisherman and non fisherman which was used for weight/s for fish pots and 'sinkers'.

There are tons of it buried and or covered up to use a better word. Thers's no need to go into it's "life" as a toxin, I am sure our friend Jnc will jump in and fill us in.. Wink Smiley

Tremendous amounts of paint/s and undercoatings contain 'lead' and some are still used. I will leave the rest to you guys. It's a great talking point and worthy of discussion, as it affects all of the inhabitants whether local or world wide.

Karma for brining it up.

Let the truth be told....as children, some of us used to bite into it and spit it out. It's flavour is distinguishing and mabe thats why I am a moron................

A great day too all. Smiley

Thanks Mr. La La La Bacardi,

Sounds like even more reason to screen the kids, or at least those kids most at risk.

Love,
