Okay, I am DISGUSTED that Canada is in the top 4 countries among which child porn is rampant - but looky looky which one is number 1?? Who knew???

Quote
Canada ranks fourth in the word in online child pornography distribution activity. The top three are Bermuda, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

I don't know if I'd take that to mean Bermuda is #1.

But wow, it's still pretty shocking that we're in the top 3. For an island so small too? Wow

I've heard about Bermudian men making regular visits to "third world" countries, particularly Brazil. I suspect they are not always going on humanitarian missions or soaking up the culture.

In defence of my Bermudian men, to the best of my knowledge those trips to Brasil and DR ain't for the kiddies... Not saying that it don't happen.. but ahhhh... ranked in the top 3? kinda hard to believe with a population of less than a small town in the US... Would like to see how these numbers were qualified...

And would like to see some sort of public statement on this... Jeez... where's a reporter when you need one  Roll Eyes

I assume these are per capita statistics.

Could this be something to do with internet porn site domicile ? Are there a lot of these sites registered as domiciled here? I find it very hard to believe that Bermuda is number one on a numbers or per capita basis.

It is illegal to host any websites in Bermuda that are in any way connected to pornography or gambling.

I find it hard to believe that Bermuda ranks so high on distribution of child porn....I had a quick google and could not find anything to back up this claim.

Frankly the Ministry f Telecommunications and E-Commerce should be all over this like white on rice.

Bermuda was very behind the times with introducing new internet child porn laws - which may be why it was being used to 'host' such activities?

The relevant amendment to the Criminal Code of 1907 was made in 2007 (Cool and was assented on the 29th of March, 2007 - until then I don't believe it was an offence to possess or handle child porn in Bermuda. (I stand to be corrected by anyone - but I am pretty sure of that!)

The relevant act is Criminal Code Amendment Act 2007:8

And thats why we are falling behind in all areas of legislation. Government needs to pull it's finger out and get moving. We are behind on many fronts when it comes to up to date legislation, just my three cents. Then again, one has to look at their priorities, whhich is open for debate..........................

Gotta run...................Looking at the 'Beastiality Act'.....mabe it applies to those that are getting screwed................................ Wink
