That's the way!

I know it is hard to keep yourself from indulging in some violent fantasy when we read about slugs like this guy.

One of the reasons I practice martial arts is to help me release the frustration I feel from the injustices of the world.  Rather than letting myself think about how I'd like to smash up somebody, I meditate to clear my mind, practice forms (kata) to warm up, then smash up Bob Makiwara...

and I feel really great afterward.

You know what I'm going to be watching when VJ needs a feed in the early hours ... (VJ's first teddy bear is a Tottenham bear, so she is already a supporter Smiley )

Back to the 37 year old... first, I can't bring myself to call him a man, that is not a real man in my book. No matter how supposedly 'promiscuous' or 'seductive' the teenaged girl is, it is the responsibility of adults to deal with her appropriately. No matter her situation, she is the victim of a crime. The defence reminds me of how some blame the victims of rape for 'asking for it' if they ever wore a short skirt/ make up/ low cut top. Under aged girls cannot legally give consent. Maybe a 17 year old boy might not get that, a 37 year old male has no excuse.

Well, I haven't been to the gym in two weeks (recovering from surgery on my wrist) so that might explain the desire to slice the 'bits' off the dirty bum.  But if he is convicted, I hope they throw the book at him and that his wife takes him to the cleaners in divorce court.

Missing that regular gym routine is hard.  I hope you recover quickly and get back to book throwing fitness soon!

I can sure understand how frustrating it is to have limited use of your wrist (& therefore hand) - hope you're able to get back in the gym soon.

Never mind hurting him in the pocket in the divorce court, I hope the wife is able to get the right support for their kids (and able to protect them from a father who thinks sex with minors is appropriate).

NOT GUILTY:

http://www.royalgazette.com/siftology.royalgazette/Article/article.jsp?articleId=7d82e3330030009&sectionId=60

I wonder:

1) WTF was his wife doing there? The man was having an INAPPROPRIATE (sexual or not) relationship with a 14 year old - HELLLOOOOOOOO

2) Does this guy get booted off the island now (I believe he's an ex-pat)...and if no, why not???

'inappropriate but not illegal' - now where have we heard that before.....?

Im gonna start a petition to have that as the new logo on our coat of arms instead of 'Quo Fata Ferunt'.

Jokes aside J-Pat, I agree with point 1. She is either very forgiving, weak or crazy! Even with the best interpretation of the man's relationship with the minor, he clearly has a problem.

But as for point 2 - he shouldnt be kicked off the island - he didnt do anything illegal. (according to a jury of his peers).

Hey TC - long time no speak!

Inappropriate but not illegal....since when does someone need to do something illegal in order to have their work permit revoked? They don't even have to go through a trial to have their work permit revoked! Let's think about the chef who muttered a 'joke', the black construction foreman who got booted off the rock for 'having the heart of a white man', the doctor who tried to fight for the rights of the less fortunate by protesting against the closing of a medical clinic....ummmmm allllll 'inappropriate (in whomever's eyes' - not necessarily mine) but never illegal....precedence has already been set...let's see some follow through.

If I was Bermudian and had teenaged girls I would definitely use this as another "x" against ex-pats....that they can come here and do whatever the heck they want? Helloooooo - I don't think so! Make an example of this <<insert explicative here>> and toss his butt off the rock too! He ADMITTED to having an INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIP with the girl...BUH-BYE

My point of view only comes from a "if the tables were turned" approach....I also have a zero tolerance view when it comes to interferance with minors....whether physically or psychologically....

I am also not saying that this girl is by any means 'innocent' - not at all - but this guy should know when to 'walk away'. Seriously - what 37 year old is 'really good freinds' with a 14 year old??? SERIOUSLY...unless that person is a "family friend". Maybe I was brought up differently, but this isn't appropriate unless the 37 year old is acting in a parental/guardian capacity....

Yes I agree, the "relationship" was seriously f****d up and why the wife is standing by him beggars belief! she's heard all the evidence and her and the kids now have to live with him knowing what he's been up to.  Including talking about her reaching the ripe oldl age of 18 then buggering off to a Carribbean island and leaving his wife and kids.  That is one messed up dude.

I don't believe for one minute that this guy has much longer left on the island, in fact i'm betting he will hang his head and take the first plane back or else his work permit will not get renewed at the next renewal time - or his place of employment is going to have serious doubts about keeping him on.  Despite the fact that his name was not published in the paper we all know this is a small island and if his wife DOES have any sense of pride, she ain't going to want to hang around.

I agree also that most teenage girls are not innocents at all - hormones raging rampant they can be hell on earth, but this guy should have known better than to get involved at all.

Actually, after reading the 'case', the guy has some serious issues. Then again were all human and we all make mistakes, not neccessarily in this type of situation.

To me it sounds like a strong woman thats trying to keep her family together and for that I give her credit. The shoe could have been on the other foot and how would the 'court of public opinion' judged?

I say lets move on and let them also.

Thanks, Rummy.  We accept the system has flaws but we should let it work due process.

Agree with Rummy's statement as highlighted by Mike. I'm sure my wife's strength would have been displayed in other ways!

J-Pat, dont get me wrong, I think that his relationship was disgusting and twisted. As a father of a teenage daughter, I cant even contemplate my reaction to such a set of events,  but what we have is a situation where the law and jury system has worked as it should. It isnt often we can say that of late. Of course I say that without having heard all the facts as presented to the court. I can only assume that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegation of any sexual activity. Given the emotional nature of the average man/woman (who make up a jury) when it comes to crimes such as these, this suggests to me that there was a severe lack of proof.

I also agree with what you said about the chef, doctor stc. being deported for all the wrong reasons. But they were and remain wrong reasons. TO deport this man because he had an inappropriate but not illegal relationship with a girl, whilst satisfying to us all, would be just like the cases you cited. I believe that his punishment will come in other forms and he will continue to be punished his entire life for his sick decision to have a flirtatious relationship with the girl. In my mind even that wont be enough, but summary deportation needs to stop.

Was I the only one to make the assumption his wife is Bermudian?
