In the Zimbabwe elections, the Opposition Movement for Democratic Change are claiming a clear lead in the election!

Of course Mugabe's camp are calling this a coup d'etat, which is complete bullshit, and he'll probably declare the election void and keep the Presidency, but it is an AMAZING thing, this.

I can't tell you how excited I am by this. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I am excited.

My "Refresh" button hates me now!

I'll try to keep updates in this thread, if anyone's interested.

I dont see a story book end to this UE. The length of time they are taking to release the results is concerning. The ruling party controls the armed forces who have openly stated that they will not accept any victory by the opposition.  I think that unfortunately only violence will prevail.

I don't either, amigo.
But, taking into account that Mugabe will do everything in his power to keep power, these numbers and the media attention this election is getting are promising.

And I can assure you that any violence will be from the ZANU-PF side, not the Opposition.

Sheesh UE - you really want to bring this subject to the table? Wink

Here I've been chomping at the bit for days with all this talk of election rigging having flash-backs to St. Georges and fearful of letting the dog out and you go ahead and unleash it yourself.... thanks. Oh and good luck with the election, a win by the opposotion might make you a very rich man! By Zimbabwe standards....

Champing. *grin*

And, by Zimbabwe standards, we're all INSANELY, Bill Gates-style rich.

My 'rents were in Zimbabwe a couple weeks ago. The hotel they stayed at didn't have power...they couldn't even find things that we take for granted like a loaf of bread or eggs. A guide drove them to Botswana which took about 90 minutes...they didnt see another car. When my pops gave the driver a $20 tip, the driver practically fell to the floor to kiss his feet. Exchange rate at the time was $1 US = $40 million Zim. So sad.

It's jerks like your dad who make it expensive for the rest of us. Wink

But seriously, not only is it sad but totally scary to realize that one can spend twenty bucks in Bermuda on a couple of drinks and not think of it yet make a man's life in such a place as Zimbabwe.

Amazing.....If I would have said something like that I would have been called all the names under the sun. Whats your reply to this Mr. Elvis? Or does it not matter since the spokesperson is not me. Just a little deviation from other threads.

Well, you always wanted answers in the past and defamed my name by calling me an "asshole" etc yet you avoid this. Showing your true colours. As for the "topic" Smokes made a comment, thats part of the topic. And thats "more importantly".

Rummy - to answer your question - Try using the icons more when you want people to know you're just joking around and you are not being at all serious. Now put away the stirrer before you spill too much of that rum.... Cool

Was not joking, stating a fact. If you wish to try and work around it...that's up to you but the facts stand for themselves. This is freedom of speech week right?

Rummy.... I cannot speak for why people understand that my using an icon to show I'm not being serious doesn't cause flak over why you get flak for making comments and not choosing to use icons to show you are only joking. Especially when I double clarify it by using the term... "but seriously." Dude - What are you mixing with that rum... paranoia?

UE -  52 polls submitted out of 200 odd after 48 hours is rigging for sure. Having seen what Kenya just went through I certainly hope we won't be seeing the same thing in Zimbabwe.
