No need to stalk you today, I'm afraid, you and dear old Rummy will be some where in the tank.

Might pick you tomorrow though, unless the handbags are still flying.

Not me, brother. I've said my piece. I'm done. Trying to keep an eye on my Avatar and staying Zen.

I'm definitely leaning towards a buggy transparent cache at your ISP. Sounds like SevenT's might have had the same product, but quickly gotten a clue, and turned it off, or fixed the misconfiguration or whatever it was. If you know exactly when it started happening, you might give your ISP a ding...

Actually, you might be right there old man. I eventually reset Firefox when this started happening - thinking that it was an "undocumented feature" (I hate calling 'em bugs) in the beta version and the problem went away. I didn't restart XP though because, as I said before, It's pretty stable on this machine on this at the moment - generally only have to do a soft reset every 3 or 4 weeks and then only because some upgrade or other requires it...

I guess I got excited to quickly last night.

Came back later on to met with the same problem. Did everything that I had done previously (except turn the computer on and off) but no joy.

Oh well, no nightime stalking for me.....

Not so fast.  I hate a niggling computer problem.

It is important to know if you used the URL I gave you to access the site.  http://www.bermudasucks.com/forum/

Also, you mentioned that you cleared the cookies previously, are you sure you did that step?

If all else fails, you can always access the forum on your web enabled phone with this URL: http://www.bermudasucks.com/forum/index.php?imode

We'll get you stalking (or staking) at night yet!

Well I don't know if this is going to help or hinder but I did manage to replicate the events I discovered on the morning of the 14th and managed to get the following error message:-

    MINE:
Database Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
    File: /home/content/s/u/c/sucker/html/forum/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 2961Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
    File: /home/content/s/u/c/sucker/html/forum/Sources/Load.php
    Line: 2007
Warning: Unknown(): A session is active. You cannot change the session module's ini settings at this time. in Unknown on line 0

and I notice that JJ's original error message was only different in its second and third lines...

    JJ's
Database Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
    File: /home/content/s/u/c/sucker/html/forum/Sources/Security.php
Line: 272Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
    File: /home/content/s/u/c/sucker/html/forum/Sources/Load.php
    Line: 2007
Warning: Unknown(): A session is active. You cannot change the session module's ini settings at this time. in Unknown on line 0

Obviously I have no idea what these error messages mean BUT I can tell you what I was doing at the time (officer)... I was in the BdaSux message editor composing a message that I was trying to fill with as many different BCC control codes as I could get in... The finished product is over at the current page of the Suckies 2008 thread...

    http://www.bermudasucks.com/forum/index.php?topic=3041.msg53486#msg53486.

I was deliberately playing with SMF's message editor to see what it could do and if there were any "undocumented features" (not that there's much documentation to read at all) to discover. I stuck loads of codes in there but the stunt that broke the camel's back was when I stuck four "{img}http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-551.gif{/img}" image calls in the same line... The "Preview" function had been taking longer and longer to process the codes as I continued to add them in (and I had hit the Preview button 20 or 30 times by now) when my error message came up. I used Firefox's "Back" button but the editor was jammed in a loop and I couldn't get back in to edit out the partying smilies - fortunately I had made a copy of the message to Notepad, so I started a new reply and pasted the text back into the new window of the editor...   Several repeats of the same story later with the same results and I'm left with two possible conclusions

    • either there is an upper limit to how far you can abuse the editor by stupidly adding in as many BCC control codes until it goes bang
    • or there is something in that image call line "{img}http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-551.gif{/img}" that if you repeat it fast enough and enough times makes the editor go walkabout

Like I say I don't know if it helps but I think JJ's problem doesn't look as though it is the same as the "undocumented feature" that I've discovered in SMF's message editor...

Just out of curiosity... is there any kind of "sandbox" facility in SMF that lets users piddle around with messages then not send them? I also wish that the s/w could be configured so the "Post" and "Preview" buttons were a bit further apart... many times I've gotten blase and accidentally hit the Post button by mistake... A "Cancel" button would have been a useful addition to the editor as well... Anyone know how many native fonts there are in the editor and what they are? Also is there a list of keyboard shortcuts for the editor apart from - alt+s to submit post or alt+p to preview

[/list] This thing is a bug... it keeps coming back even after I've deleted it!!!

Got it. What woulld be most interesting is if it happened again going to the RG's site - if so, that would tend to conclusively prove that it's nothing to do with BS specifically, but a problem on y'all's end.

    Quote
I notice that JJ's original error message was only different in its second and third lines...

Right, same problem, different page at BS.

    Quote
I can tell you what I was doing at the time

Right; not clear yet if that was important. If, like I say, you get the exact same problem with the RG site, it's unlikely to be BS-related. But I'll keep an open mind...

To Mike, Yes i used the URL you gave me. I had copied all the URL from yourself, UE and whover else posted a URL.

The first time I tried to get in I used Mike's url. When I tried to get in later I initially used my own short cut, and as it did not work I cleared everything powered down the modem etc and tried again to no avail.

I gave up and went to bed after that Roll Eyes

Something that I just noticed in my constant comings and goings.

I was not logged in as in My profile did not appear at the top of the page. Any posts I viewed did noy have the repy section on them yet for some strange reason (I always go to the foot of the page to see the last 5 posts) it showed me as logged in.

Perhaps that is part of the problem as I wasn't logged in.

Yeah, I've seen similar problems when I was doing the development using a couple of different computers.  The server uses a cookie to track your session and can get upset when it reads a copy of an older cookie after you've used a different machine.  If you use the logout button to quit the session before you leave the computer it should clear the cookie for you.

    Computers!  Agonizingly predictable...  wacko

I use a bunch of different computers here, switching among them randomly, and I've never had this happen. FWTW.
