So am I - and I'm not black. This is one of the prime examples of how our government leaders are two-faced scumbags. They want everyone to have the Big Conversation. They want everyone to remember that whites are supremacists no matter what. They want everyone to learn about slavery and be reminded of it. They want everyone to be sensitive to the needs of the black population.....

And what do they do? Pass an SDO that will eradicate a fantastic and splendid example of our history and heritage for the sake of letting a few select people make some quick cash. What will we have to show our grandchildren after all the important buildings are gone? Pictures? Give me a break.

Not only is this building the legacy that deserves our country's special attention it is a beautiful example of architecture on it's own. Where's the Laverne Furberts of the world calling for it's protection?

Larry - keep up the pressure. Give them hell.

Think there's any chance there will be a reversal of course on this one? I suppose it all depends on the amount of public outrage....

I must say, Larry's column was rather past the napalm stage and well into suitcase A-bombs. He had some damned harsh things to say, things that will really sting. I wonder if that will just get backs/danders up? Time will tell, I guess.

The right thing, much as I hate to suggest further expenditure of public money, is for it to be independentl appraised, and bought by the government, and used for something appropriate and useful. Although I suppose people who own historic buildings in other jurisdictions aren't always compensated for their loss in potential earnings when their buildings are protected...

Oh, speaking of parts of black Bermudian heritage that might get ground up into $$$, I wonder what will happen to the old Berkeley building?


There's another irony here too - we've finally reached racial equality in at least one thing in Bermuda - everyone's selling off the beauty and history of the past to make a fast dollar.

I know there are a lot of people in Bermuda who are really scraping by, and who may not be able to afford 'luxuries' like that (let's leave aside the debate as to whether they really are), but somehow I think the people who are going to really make out on this deal aren't in that category...

Maybe Larry needs to start accepting the fact that Ewart Brown's nothing more than a doctor from California. He's surrounded himself with so much hoopla over the years and has created such a false front he doesn't give two hoots for what Bermuda's heritage is about. Let alone black heritage.

Seeriously how can this egomaniac talk about making Bermuda the focale point of the Diaspora Trail and yet without batting an eyelid allow for an SDO to tear down such an incredibly significant building? He's a cheap suit Larry, start getting used to it or do something about it.
