As if Austrians keeping their children from incestuous relationships in the cellar weren't enough, now German police have had to deal with finding 3 babies in a freezer. Whatever police are paid it could never be enough.

What is wrong with someone to be able to do this? I try to understand motives of crimes but this I just can't get my head around.

Totally whacked. I cannot possibly imagine why someone could do such things. The Austrian's lawyer is setting up an insanity plea. Maybe he'll end up in a padded cell with no windows for the last 24 years of his life. Seems fitting.

Yeah,I got that impression when the lawyer said he's mentally ill (no shit). Thing is, there's a difference betweenmentally ill and insane - I think (while no expert) that to plead insanity is very difficult and would involve showing that he did not know what he did was wrong because he was mentally ill. Since he hid it for so long he must've known.Still, everyone's entitled to a defence and what else is the lawyer going to come up with to defend the indefensible?

I just hope that the whack job's daughter and family get the much needed support and counselling they will need after going through this horrible ordeal.  I cannot begin to fathom what they all must be going through.  My heart goes out to them.  Sad

Absolutely, karma to you Wassup. I can't imagine where a counsellor would start to unravel this mess. The mother and kids will be dealing with it for the rest of their lives. I also hope that the Austrian authorities are able to give them new identities so they can not forever be known for their past. I understand that the daughter first admitted to hospital is in intensive care and one imagines that the others have had no healthcare either until now.
