Not the first time I've mentioned this but... there is a terrible attitude in terms of sexualising children and abuse of underage girls and boys.

Today's paper has the man charged with indecently assaulting a 10 year old and another sentenced for sex with two 13 year olds. Yesterday it was another man who'd been having sex with a 13 year old.

I know teenaged girls can be precocious, can dress in a way that is testing out their budding sexuality. It is the responsibility of adults to know the right thing... and the right thing is not having sex with them. It is not touching up 10 year olds. And the whole thing of women starving themselves to look like pre-pubescent girls and then telling us that's sexy... doesn't help.

Well, to be fair Reality the "man" we're referring to in the instance of the 2 13yr olds is only 18. And was 17 during the time that he had sex with both girls. I'm not saying that I think it's cool for 17year olds to have sex with 13 year olds. I don't think 17 year olds should ever be having sex with 13 year olds, period.

I just question if is it really right to consider him as an adult because now he's 18? Or perhaps maybe my problem is more with the age of consent being 16. Especially being that you're considered an adult when you're 18... It just leaves 17 as a bit of a 'grey area'.  wacko I don't know... I just can't help but feel that this sentence is just a lil too harsh.

I believe most places if the crime was committed as a juvenile, he would be tried and sentenced as such. A seventeen year old would be well and truly aware of the age of consent. I wonder if his parents ever had the chat with him or if that works with a 17 year old boy).

It is interesting to have a harsher sentence in this case than is often seen in the case of older men doing something similar.

Well yea I'm sure he's aware of the age of consent. Whether a chat would have helped, who knows... I guess it depends if he's the kinda kid that listens to his parents... or if he's the kind that likes to learn the hard way.  Wink

In terms of him receiving a harsher sentence than older men have in the past... are you referring specifically to Bermuda? or elsewhere? If Bermuda, any case in particular you know of where an older guy got a lighter sentence? I can't think of any off the top of my head... but my memory's a little foggy sometimes  Cheesy
