Half the time it also prompts me to allow secure and/or unsecure content as well, so if I'm browsing somewhere else in another tab and come back to Bda Sucks I have that pop up window to say "allow" to and then tab out again to allow it time to load.

Many times I just close the window because it takes so long.

What can I do to make it faster...anything?

Can't help Ace...but can confirm that you are not alone in your problem.

As to why...no idea.

Can't comment on the slowness as I have not noticed anything different, but have noticed the secure/nonsecure item issue for a long time. Sometimes it's there other times it's not

Couple of answers to a couple of questions -

1) speed - the joomla stuff is a lot bulkier than the regular forum, so if you are not on a fast broadband connection it is slow.  Use the text version designed for mobile devices - no graphics, but it sure is fast.

http://lite.bermudarocks.com

2) The pop up window occurs because we offer the Secure Socket Layer (SSL or HTTPS) browsing for encrypted connections to the site.  Since the advertising banners come from other servers, they are not part of the HTTPS page and you have to allow then with the pop up, or by setting your browser to allow mixed content.  If you advise which browser you use, I can give you the instructions to find the setting.

I hope that helps.  Let me know if there are any other problems.

Mike,

Hate to disappoint you but the "secure and non-secure" flags only crop up on my office machine.  Fixing the issue at home took about three minutes.  Applying the same fix in the office caused real problems with the site and I had to undo it [and I'm the only person outside of IT that has the authority to play games with their box].

To be honest, if the Wiki-Crap setup had existed when I found this site, I would have dumped it before I ever got involved.  And I mean ever.

number m, what's the chance of "borrowing" your dial up account?

I am tempted to go back to dial up, as it seems a waste of money to pay for a high speed link, when the dial up speed is fast enough for this site. Cheesy

And yes, I am aware of the "lite" version, but I like all the bells and whistles

Not that I'm bitching, but I have an 8 meg connection, and consistently get a true connection speed of 7+ megs, and even I'm surprised at how slow the site has become of late.

Go ahead and bitch Loki - for all of us.

I have received UK surface mail faster than it takes to load Page 2 on this site. Even here where there the web slows down due to the amount of traffic - I can still load other sites faster.

8MB? Sheesh...!

Is there a techi out there who can explain some of the likely causes.
