The site is undeniably slow. It's not a connection issue at the users end.
PErhaps there's a connection issue where it's hosted?
Perhaps there's an issue with the underlying database? (I get mysql erros occasionally when refreshing pages)
Don't tihnk it's hte actual content since other "heavy" sites load fine.

But it is slow to load.

I have also noticed that this site has slowed down considerably in the past three of four days.  Cool

For what it's worth, I've been getting the same message as JJ all day and have also noticed that the site has been very slow over the past couple of days.

It's the UBP's fault. The Forty Thieves still own all the high tech bussinesses et al and they have to proof read everything and disseminate it. Plus, 'Nuke' is just pissed off because Mike has not paid him in two months as a server.

Plus, J. Starling is in on it too. He just wants to see this place catch a fire so his frainz Christian ann Dennis can gat a peece huv dee hacsheon.

The only one that gets a 'quick load' is Smoykeen Gahun...................... Slap

How about I open a ticket with Go Daddy and ask about the upgrade off of a shared server.  I don't mind adding more performance to the system there.

Not being a computer geek or anything close to it  dunce given that this morning (7am) the site seemed to be running at it's normal speed, and, as of now, it is in it's slow mode, with the speed picking up later in the afternoon. This would suggest that it may be a traffic issue. I don't know if anyone else can back this up.

Anyway, a suggestion (how dare I...)

On the "lite" site, is it possible to add something which shows which posts are active? As far as I can tell the only way is if the topic is at the top, but that doesn't mean people have posted. Therefore is there an option to add something like the last 5 posts (similar to here)?

Jimmy, any feature is possible.  I'm not adding additional functionality now; keep focused on what is important.

Your guess about the "traffic issue" could be right.  GoDaddy sent me a note saying they were doing some work, so I'm guessing they are upgrading infrastructure that will hopefully lead to faster and better connections.

Otherwise, I'll move the site to a fast server in Aus and we'll see how that works.

I am focused on what is important, and one of those things is site accessibility. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond any ones control (please don't take this as a criticism aimed at you, because it isn't), the page load speeds drop off considerably.

I figure that a fair few of the users use this site when at work, (some more than others), and for me there is nothing more frustrating than having to waiting for a page to load.

As always, you are welcome to make your opinion known here on the site itself.  Constructive suggestions and programming tips are appreciated.  Complaints about the speed will receive my deepest sympathy that you are still in the slow lane.

I do use the "lite" site quite frequently, hence what I thought was a constructive suggestion. By no means do I expect this to be adopted immediately (or at all), I only ask that it be considered.

(If I post this now, hopefully by lunchtime the page will appear  Slap)

I might be stupid, or just clueless, but what is the "Lite" version? How does one get there? This is for Blackberry-ing purposes only, of course!

This is the link UE

http://www.bermudarocks.com/forum/index.php?imode

As Mike has probably stated on other threads about it, it is an extremely streamlined version of the site which has it's uses.

I will be using it as of now.......I had to type in the url as I gave up waiting for the page to open (the explanation below will help to explain why)

Mike was able to count to 2 perhaps 3 elephants (Gregory's Girl time keeping method) when opening a page here, due to my limited arithmetic skills I am struggling after 30 elephants (not the alcoholic ones  Cheesy) and as I consider "time" to be something that is important to me in excess of 30 seconds to open a page for whatever reasons is unacceptable.

This is the important bit.

Disclaimer.

Any frustration due to the page refresh times is in no way directed at Mike.

Oh dear, time for me to eat humble pie I think. Just noticed that there is an "unread posts" in the "lite" version.

But it is much quicker to use

Hahaha.  Thanks Jimmy.  I've done this type of work for a long time; I don't take it personally and I don't expect to win against the machines!

The easy URL is http://lite.bermudarocks.com - it redirects to the long one you posted.  (note to self... time to update the FAQ)

There are two other lite (wap) options, if you want to test them out:
