Hey guys/gals

I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to say hello.  I got a job offer doing controls work (air conditioning related) on the island.  Assuming paperwork to get my passport and visa goes through on schedule, I should be on my way by early october.  I'm 24 and will be leaving Austin,tx.  I graduated from college last december and am wanting to get out of Texas to see a new part of the world.  I can hardly wait to break out the fly rod and catch a few bonefish.

How much do gym memberships cost on the island?

Hope everyone stayed dry during the storm!

Hi jcb84, welcome to the forum.

Good luck with the paperwork, it can be a bit of an anxious wait when the schedule is out of your control.  Make sure you keep some flexibility in your plans; sometimes things can take longer than expected.

I have a few friends that love the bonefishing, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.

Gyms in Bermuda are expensive, like just about everything there - other than sitting on the beach.  For starters, I recommend checking out Magnum Gym.  It is in a fairly new facility, and Ron and Karen Magnum are cool people that are really into it because they love it.

Their rate page shows a start up fee of $250 plus $125 per month for the basic membership.  Its worth committing yourself to something like that, as it is easy to fall in to the rut that doesn't include much more fitness than lifting your Dark & Stormy glass!

Elvis,

Yes, the position is with BAC.  Heard anything about them?  Only good I hope...

Mike,

Thanks for the gym info.  Lifting weights/swimming is my much needed outlet for stress.
I guess I cant say the price suprised me seeing as how everything else is exorbitant haha....

I've heard good things about BAC. Plus, they do our A/C here at the gallery, so I love them! *grin*
If you ever get a call for Crisson's on Front Street, stop into the gallery on the second floor and introduce yerself.

Depending on what sort of gym you are after, you could also check out the gym at the Squash Club. Think membership runs somewhere around $800.00 (a year) and you will have access 24/7 (although not staffed 24/7). It is also out of town, so tends to be quieter, but it is kinda small. Just depend what you are looking for. It also has bar facilities which often stay open till the early hours as it is a private club.
