Scotland Yard has joined the investigation into the brutal murder of a Welsh doctor on Caribbean Island of Antiga.  Her husband is in a coma from his gunshot wounds.

This attack on them while in their tourist property will send shock waves through the sector.  People are afraid of violence in their cities; they don't want to vacation with it.

Ditto. This too is horrible news. Bring back the death penalty for this type of crime I say.

Can I split the hair and say I'd like to see the death penalty administered with non-violent lethal injection?

Its hard to reconcile non-violence with condoning killing; but I think this is the type of circumstance to consider it.

I disagree. How many times have we heard of people convicted of horrific crimes who have later been discovered to be entirely innocent? I'd rather imprison someone for life with no chance of parole than take the chance of executing an innocent person.

It does not work Smokes. Two reported deaths via the news media and we pretend that we can petition Parliament and or the US Supreme Court..to do something about it?

I suggest checking the current statistics on Murder in all westen nations, then compare them with those of eastern nations. I think you will find a differance in extermination, ethnic cleansing, sporadic criminality et al.

What, when and how this happens. It's life. Hundreds of murders a day this side of the pond but only the media bring out things like this ....why? Honeymoons be banned, Bus rides...passenger beware.

It will come out in the wash. Good thing I was not on that bus...........I may have had a moment but the bastard would not have been able to talk again...........................and I am just 150 lbs.....do what you have too do.....the system does not work.

I need a rum..........................

Thats another thread Urchin. Yes shit happens but your answeris give them "life" and the process goes on...appeal appeal.........................

It's not that we want to kill them all......Jingus...................There are appeals courts.....there are no "appeals' wholesale' jails, facilities....................................Hell...put them up at XL Headquarters...they will have room..................................

Another true tragedy which I hope the authorities can solve and maybe bring some small closure to the families and friends involved with this horrific incident.....

@Urchin - the number who have been found innocent after being sentenced to death is low - certianly in the UK system - it is the argument always put forward by anyone against capital punishment. By contrast there are cases of offenders being released for capital crimes who commit other capital crimes.....(I do respect your view because this is one argument that you are either for or against – not much middle ground?)

@Mike - having seen some of  the ropes etc. used in hangings and heard some of the lectures - it is considered the most humane and quickest way to execute someone...however, I would also go with the injection route if that made you feel better!

Sorry Rummy - I nearly derailed a thread.......have a K for being the Rumster!

You're right Piglet - it's one of those for or against situations. I think I have been influenced by the overturned convictions in the US.

No matter what the punishment, in this case, I hope they catch the perpetrators and bring them to justice. My heart goes out to the families of the honeymooners, and also to the people owning and operating the resort. Let's hope there's some resolution.

It is now a double-murder, as Mr. Mullany has died after life support was shut off following a brain-stem scan showing no activity.

It seems so much worse that it was a young couple celebrating their wedding.  We can't help but feel the tragic loss this violence has brought.

Regardless of the punishment, I pray for swift justice to be served in this case.
