Street renaming next?

Mike,

I may have missed it, but I can't recall any rationale being given. I remember it coming up in the Queens Speech - but that's about it.

Letting the mind run riot, it could be as simple as clearing out some of the old vestiges of old I guess. I can't see that either Corporation are a hindrance to Govt - but who knows?

Bermuda - 2 Bermuda cities to lose municipal governments... [2009-06-28 Taiwan News (AP)]

2 Bermuda cities to lose municipal governments

Associated Press

2009-06-28

Bermuda plans to dissolve the local governments that run two main municipalities because it says the framework is outdated.
Cabinet Secretary Marc Telemaque says private companies will help restructure Hamilton and St. George's. Hamilton official Ed Benevides says the government will take over city services including garbage collection and street lighting.

Bermuda last year pledged to modernize the municipalities. Recent feuding among the cities' elected officials has led to resignations and claims of corruption.

The two municipalities were founded more than two centuries ago and employ almost 200 people.

Hamilton Mayor Sutherland Madeiros said this week that officials are fighting the plan.

They are probably quite interested in Government meddling and oppression.   Lips Sealed
