WHAT.
THE.
F*CK.

Ok, I am one of the very few people on this island that actually care whether i make it in too work on time or not....yesterday I was late because of an accident right at paget lights (interestingly enough, a police bike was underneath a car)

Today, I left EARLY to get into work EARLY and ended up late - because FRONT STREET WAS CLOSED.....I cnanot wait to hear WHY Front Street was closed, so if anyone has any tidbits of information, please share!

I'm 'vexed'.

Please feel free to ignore my type-o's in my earlier post! I was venting!

#1 - In reference to the closure of Front Street this morning- this was due to the scheduled Throne Speech being held at 11 am. The fact that some people didn't make it in to the office until 11 am had absolutely no bearing on the government at all. I still don't understand why the road was closed with NO WARNING, we've had plenty of other throne speeches that didn't affect traffic at all....

#2 - http://www.royalgazette.com/rg/Article/article.jsp?articleId=7d9b33730030009&sectionId=60 - police bike involved in crash...when I happened upon the accident, it was pretty clear to me that the bike driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into oncoming traffic. The car was still in position on the correct side of the road. That poor driver must have been pretty badly shaken (I do hope the officer wasn't hurt!) - I wonder how many of the 37 collisions involving police vehicle this year also involved the same drivers? That would be interesting to know!

Hey Wiki - I thought you said you didn't care anyome?

That's the best advice..... when in Rome!

I stopped 'making time' years ago.  At frist it felt weird, like I was a bad school kid.  Nobody said boo and I don't rip the ass out of it like some so I don't stand out.  I had a list of stupid excuses, like its was raining in Devonshire or there was a sandstorm or the bridge was closed.   But, I never got to use one.

I wonder what happens to us when our sentence is over and we go back to the civilized world though?  Can we shrug off years of Bermuda slakertude and make it in a world that has gotten more competitive while we've been coasting?

Smiley Oh, I don't care about most things but, I am OBSESSIVE of being on time for everything (I know, I know, I moved to the wrong island!)

I don't get into trouble, and don't have to make any excuses about being late....I just am late. No one asks why....

I am LOATHE to find out what happens when we return - my work ethics have been thrown out the window....on the flip side though, I am happy to report that my anal tendancies may never return (I am a recovering workaholic! Now I may actually have interests outside of work! Something else may actually take priority over work sometimes! A little exciting!)

What will happen when you go back to the civilised world is you will go to an event which begins at for example 7pm. You will assume that this means it will start sometime after 7pm probably more towards 8pm or later so you will get there some time inbetween. At said event when you arrive you will discover that the said event did start on time and you have missed some of the show i.e The firework display. You will then realise that you are not still in bermuda time and next time will turn up at least five minutes before said event and probably still be the last person to arrive!

Ahhhhh but I do that already...which means I usually need to bring a book or something because often i am the only one there for at least 30 minutes! I used to be sooooo anal that if I showed up 15 minutes early, I would think I was already late! HAHAHAHAHA!

As you say, Kitty, it comes back pretty fast.

One of the reasons my clients in Bermuda loved me was that I'd call to let them know if I was running more than half an hour late... that is so unheard of on the Island it made me stand out like a superstar.

@ Rummy - you are kidding about the truck drivers, right?  I've had them blow me off with the excuse it was raining - in some other Parish!   wacko

Call if you are running late?  In Bermuda?   Slap

I seriously don't know how I'll manage working back in the civliized world.  There should be a refresher course for returning expats.  How to escape from Island time.

That's funny.  A 28 day program to recover from Bermuda.  Sign me up.

First step: acknowldege we are powerless over Bermudian arrogance and that life isn't about a pink beach.
