Whistling Woods associates with Government of Bermuda

February 08, 2010
Bollywood Trade News Network

CHITANYA CHINCHILKAR, RAVI GUPTA, MEGHNA PURI GHAI, SUBHASH GHAI, EWART FEDRICK BROWN, WANDA BROWN & WALTER LISTER

Whistling Woods International (WWI), Asia's largest Film, Television, Animation and Media Arts Institute promoted by Mukta Arts & Filmcity announced its association with the Government of Bermuda. The Premier of Bermuda visited the Whistling Woods International campus to sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Mr. Subhash Ghai, Founder and Chairman, Whistling Woods International.

As per the MoU, WWI & Mukta Arts Ltd. will recommend Bermuda to the Indian entertainment industry. The Government of Bermuda will also provide sponsorships to two students every year from Bermuda to study filmmaking at WWI.

When asked why he chose Whistling Woods International for this association, Premier of Bermuda & Minister of Tourism his Excellency Dr. the Hon. Ewart Frederick Brown said, "Whistling Woods International is considered as a gateway to Indian Cinema which is recognized globally and hence, I am here to encourage Indian film shoots to happen in Bermuda which will help us to promote tourism in Bermuda through Indian cinema".

Mr. Brown's political career has been a fulfilling one spanning over three decades. He was the first appointed Minister of Transport following the General Election of November 1998 when the PLP (Progressive Labour Party) swept to power.

Expressing his excitement on the occasion, Subhash Ghai, Chairman of Whistling Woods International said, "It is a great honour to have such personalities from all over the world visiting our institute. Whistling Woods International is now truly international with this association and with this we expect a lot of Bollywood shoots to happen in Bermuda".

"WWI is looking at expanding new horizons and this is the first step towards the long relation with the Government of Bermuda. We look forward to having students from Bermuda coming and experiencing the varied culture and techniques of filmmaking in India, thereby opening the minds of the young generation", said Mr. Ravi Gupta, Executive Director, Mukta Arts Ltd.

HEY! I was just going to post about this amazing new deal the Gov't has signed with a film institute in India to offer discounted tuition to Bermudian students...I don't know many people who have sent their kids to that University in Trinidad (or wherever)...ya think they're gonna send them to INDIA? To learn FILM MAKING? i didn't realize there were so many lucartive careers on island in FILM MAKING!

I also love how the premier is touting this new "National Service" program - targeted aa a solution to the recent crime problems, but it is a totally voluntary program...

seriously....i'm missing quite a few.

I just don't get what sense this all makes.  Film making Bermudians studying in India for...i'm sorry for what?
And to spin Tourism into it is...well insulting.  I can't see how any of this fits in...and if we are the only ones asking these questions then the whole of Bermuda needs a crazy pill.

Clearly this is Premier of Bermuda & Minister of Tourism his Excellency Dr. the Hon. Ewart Frederick Brown bilking the taxpayer for yet another extravagant (China, Dubai...) trip before he leaves office.

The PLP is too weak to stop him, the opposition is too lame and the people are too lazy and complacent.  A few boo-hoos, a few bloggers whine and his Excellency knows he can get away with it.

A billion dollars in debt, here we come!

It's all starting to come together now...(still doesn't make sense, but it's all coming together now)

- Government will sponsor 2 students every year to go to the film making school (because IB will be replaced by filming movies here int he ever so budget-minded island of Bermuda - don't forget the work permits!)
- This film making school will tout Bermuda as the next coolest location to the Bollywood powers that be
-Tons of Bollywood movies would be filmed in Bermuda (making tons more jobs for Bermudians, especially the new Bermudian film students!) because it is SOOOO cost-efficient to film on a tiny expensive island how many thousands of miles away
- Indian people who live elsewhere in the world will watch Bollywood films filmed in Bermuda
- 20 million Indian people will now want to come to Bermuda
- Bermuda MP's and Civil sevants will also be travelling to India to improve their technical know-how...because the technical know-how of the much closer U.S, Canada, and The U.K. isn't doing them ANY good...

Like I said, it's just STARTING to come together...and the end result is STILL going to be as Mike and others have said - FREE TRIP TO AN EXCOTIC LOCALE...at least  we haven't been hearing much about Neletha Butterfield and her monthly excursions to Jamaica or wherever the hell she was going to"learn about" their agriculture! Maybe she was dating a farmer down there?

heheh... nice one Wiks.

Does this sound like Ewart negotiating:

"... the price is $9,000 per year"

"Can you triple that for two years and split the difference in cash with me?"

"How about $30,000, then?"

"I'll take two!"

Of course lots of Indians will want to visit Bermuda its just a short hop away after all, a flight from Indian to Bermuda, its only going to take about 30 hours and cost over around $2500. This of course does not include transfers from airport to hotel which will cost a months salary in Indian terms.

"cost a months salary in Indian terms" - I'm sure they'll be lining up.  Not!
