Bermudian prep student arrested in theft case

LITCHFIELD — A citizen of Bermuda attending South Kent School was arraigned Friday in Litchfield's Bantam Court on fourth-degree larceny charges and charged with stealing electronic equipment from his fellow students.

Tahj Bell was released on a written promise to appear in court by Judge Cara F. Eschuk.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Bell is a student enrolled at the college preparatory high school on Bulls Bridge Road.

School officials summoned state police Thursday to investigate complaints of stolen iPhones and laptop computers. As a trooper was parking his cruiser Thursday, another student approached to report the theft of his iPhone that afternoon.

An investigation led to the questioning of boys who were in the school's gymnasium when one of the iPhones turned up missing Wednesday. Bell, who had been playing basketball, denied any involvement. When confronted by an eyewitness account of a theft, he confessed to a single incident involving the theft of an iPhone, computer and PlayStation.
