I'm a bit at a loss after reading the article about Zane DeSilva's reaction to being booed and called a coward.

"On Friday July 23, my family and I experienced yet another episode of the racism that this white segment of the Bermudian population continues to deny exists."

Party standard - blame the whites!

"In no way was I going to be subjected to that experience again. Had my wife not been able to restrain my son we could have an all out bloodbath yesterday."

Perhaps if you raised your son with the right values, it wouldn't come down to his mommy being the one to "restrain" him.   Undecided

could it be that it's not racism that is making them boo you but the fact that you are a pathetic lapdog that doesn't know the difference between shit and shoe shine?   blink

If you haven't seen this, take the minute to watch, but take much longer to consider what he says.

I've always thought that Morgan Freeman is more on the ball, with respect to race in our society, then just about any activist out there.  He just gets it, and understands where we have to go to be at one with each other.

Case in point, if you haven't had a chance and are interested in things like this, watch "Prom night in Mississippi."

Eye opening, and thought provoking.

What I don't get is that it is so very, very simple.  Why won't we just do it.

Cuz those with the power to do something about it, benefit from keeping it the way it is, and further entrench themselves by fanning the flames of hate.

Bermuda politics is stuck in the 60's.  Once the old guard moves on and the young blood, fresh with hope and ideas moves in then real change can happen.  But look at the leaders, they are the ones wronged in the times when it was okay to discriminate, so they have a big ass chip on their collective shoulders.  They don't hesitate to get aggressive, which is reflected by the people, and in the end weighs everyone down.

At some point the chain must be broken....but with this present group of clowns, i wouldn't hold my breath.

I saw this episode of 60 minutes and never forgot it.  If only we could do just that.  Stop talking about it.  Problem is, it seems to be the only way the PLP Government can guarantee votes.   Pity.

I watched Prom Night in Mississippi - thanks for that recommendation, Captain.  I enjoyed the insight and the message of hope.

No prob.  I watched it and was amazed that even today the hate is alive and well for some.  But you can see where the younger generation is trying to break away from the old doctrine of 'stick to your own'.  Some still find it easiest to just listen to their parents with regard to race relations, whereas others have started to carve their own path away from the hate that has been present for so many generations.

I like how Morgan Freeman gave them the chance to do it themselves.  He gave them something that they can make into their own, and hopefully it is the start of something positive.

I agree with Morgan Freeman...I am saddened by the fact that until I moved to Bermuda, I never really thought about everyone's freaking race so much in my life. It's pretty pathetic really....I am slowly going back to 'not noticing' (not talking about it) anymore, but it's weird to even have to make that switch in the first place...

Very true, Wiki.  I experienced the same thing in Bermuda.  That's a big reason we're not there with our child now.
